Here’s a story you can relate to, perhaps even from personal experience.
You buy a brand new furnace, and you’re thrilled. The old one just wasn’t cutting it, and you were tired of not knowing when or if it would keep your home warm enough. So, you kicked it to the curb and allowed a licensed, reputable HVAC contractor recommend and install a furnace made to order.
Once the installation is completed, the installer tells you about his company’s customer service plan, one that includes annual preventive maintenance for your furnace and central AC system.
You, being wary and now the proud owner of a brand new system, say “Nah, we’re good, but thanks anyway!” Two years later or so, you come to regret that decision. And, if you haven’t learned your lesson by then, you’ll no doubt come to regret it again…and again.
Where’s This All Going?
A furnace works very hard to keep you warm. Without proper and regular maintenance, it’s bound to develop premature problems. And should any such problem occur while it’s still under warranty, the warranty can be nullified for failure to have a licensed heating professional provide thorough preventive maintenance service.
Which means you don’t want to skip it, and for some very good and specific reasons:
- Catch small problems in the making. Doesn’t it make more sense to take care of a potential repair issue sooner than later, since “later” almost always means more expensive?
- Added safety. If, for example, a system inspection should uncover even a small crack in the furnace heat exchanger, the problem can soon be corrected to prevent potentially harmful levels of carbon monoxide from infiltrating your living spaces.
- Prevent electrical fire. During a comprehensive system tune-up and inspection, your heating technician will tighten and inspect all electrical connections. That helps ensure problem-free performance while preventing an electrical fire.
- Lower utility costs. A well-maintained system operates at maximum energy efficiency and that means you pay less to heat your home.
- Longer equipment life. A well-maintained system is going to last longer than systems that are ignored once installed. It’s just that simple.
