6 Summer Home Maintenance “Must Do’s”

One thing most people want from summer is more leisure time. Sometimes, however, home maintenance activities get in the way.  Any way around it?  Absolutely: prioritize in advance what needs to be done so you control home maintenance projects instead of letting them control you.

Here are a few practical examples to help get you started.

  • While you can easily clean or replace the filter, your AC system needs to be cleaned and checked once a year to provide you with worry-free performance. As a reminder, annual preventive maintenance is part of your Maintenance Plan benefits package. Contact us today to schedule service if it hasn’t already been provided.
  • Clean all ceiling and other fans with a damp rag. If you have high ceilings, a ceiling-fan duster can help de-grime hard-to-reach blades.
  • Check your hoses and exterior faucets for leaks — even a tiny drip can result in a big waste of water. Pinhole leaks in hoses can be covered up by winding regular electrical tape around the dry hose in overlapping layers.
  • Carefully inspect your toilet. Look for signs or a leak or issues with the float valve; and, check all pipe connections.
  • Inspect washing machine hoses and replace them if they’re loose or show signs of cracking, wear or leakage.
  • Check electrical outlets and cords for potential fire hazards, such as frayed wires or loose-fitting plugs. To prevent an electrical fire, don’t overload outlets, fuse boxes, extension cords or any other power service.
