Home Maintenance Tasks to Tackle this Spring

The increasingly longer days and warmer temps make early spring a great time to tackle some projects and prep your home and garden for the summer months ahead. And to help you figure out just where to start, we’ve come up a list of 10 tasks to check off your to-do list now so that you can enjoy the season to come.

Gutters and Downspouts

Clean your gutters and downspouts early in the season to make sure spring rainwater flows freely and away from your home. While you’re at it, make sure they are securely fastened to your home and repair or replace as needed.

Exterior Woodwork

Reseal or stain your wood fences, decks, railings, pergolas, and other structures every two years to keep them in tip-top shape. And don’t forget to inspect them for any loose boards, rotted wood, or other damage.

Termites

Termites swarm in early spring, so be on the lookout for these wood-destroying winged insects and contact a licensed professional at the earliest sign.

Roof

Old Man Winter can do a number on your roof. Use binoculars to take a visual inspection and look for missing or damaged shingles, deteriorated flashing, or any other signs of damage. If you spot anything that needs attention, contact a roofer.

Exterior Paint and Siding

Inspect the exterior of your home for peeling paint or cracked siding. If you’re thinking of repainting or siding your home, early spring is a great time to schedule that project to beat the summer rush.

Driveways and Paths

Extreme temperatures can be rough on asphalt and concrete. Check driveways and walkways for damage and reseal, repair, or replace as needed.

Irrigation System

Inspect your irrigation system by running it through all zones manually and walking around your property. Look for damaged heads and adjust any that are spraying the house or wasting water by spraying the street.

Mosquitoes

Do your part in preventing a mosquito invasion this summer by getting rid of any standing water on your property.

Window and Door Screens

Before you pop those screens back in to allow that nice breeze to flow through, inspect them for rips and holes. If you find any, you can get a screen repair kit at your local hardware store for an easy and inexpensive fix.

Central Air

The best way to keep your home cool and your air conditioning system running longer and more efficiently is to have it serviced annually.

And that’s where we come in. When you have your central air conditioning system inspected and tuned-up by Optimum Air, you’ll enjoy:

  • Fewer system breakdowns and subsequently, fewer repairs
